How to Import Your Facebook Contacts

After choosing to download your data, you will be taken to a classic Facebook interface. From here, you’ll want to see these drop-down menus under the Request Copy tab:

By default, you can set the data range on all your data. However, if you want to delete some contacts or add recent friends, you may want to modify this field. Click the data range pull-down menu then select your new start and end date.

With the Format field, it is best to select HTML or JSN. We will discuss how to convert to a Gmail friendly format.

Below this, you will see that all your data has been selected for download by default. Since we only need your friends data, click on all of the blue unselected. Next, click Friends to reactivate the checkbox next to it.

To the right of the drag-down menus, you’ll see the Create File button turn blue again. Facebook will alert you that a copy of your information is being made.

Within two minutes, you should see a prompt at the bottom left indicating that your data is ready for download. You will also receive a warning from Facebook under notifications that it is ready for download. So there are two ways to be sure if you miss it on your screen.

When your data file is ready, click the Available Copies tab. A small number next to the available copies will again show that any file is ready for download. If you still see a pending message next to your file, the page will bring up the download button once refreshed.

After clicking download, you may be asked to re-enter your password for security reasons. You’ll see a prompt, so be sure to save the .zip file right now.

Your data file will expire in four days. So if you have to download your information again, remember that.

2. Gather information from your friends

Since your Facebook friend’s information does not appear in any file, you need to remove the zip archive. Most programs that handle zip files handle other common file handles, such as RR.

So if you don’t already have any tools, look for the best tools to open RR files to extract that zip file.

3. Convert your Facebook data to Gmail

After you unzip your zip, you will have a new folder. If you want to save your data as HTML, you will see a buddy folder as well as an index html. If you want to save your data as JSON, you will only see five JSON files.

With HTML, you’ll want to open the Friends folder and select Friends HTML. For JSN, you will want friends. Deleting other files will not be used as related to friend and friend request.

Convert HTML to CSV

For HTML file types, Conversion lets you add files to convert online. After selecting a file, press Convert. You can then download the CSV file to import it into Google Contacts.
